Every year millions of computers get thrown out, in reality the number is in the hundreds of millions. That is a lot of computers and that is a problem. They take up a lot of space in the landfills and there are a lot of valuable materials in a computer. Simply throwing out is an enormous waste. Instead you would be much better off recycling your computer.
The main reason that you would want to recycle your computer is to keep it out of the landfill. It is fairly widely known that we are running out of space in our landfills and that alternatives need to be found. This is especially true when it comes to computers because a lot of them get thrown away each year and they are quite bulky items. That means that they take up a lot of space in landfills. Finding another way to dispose of them is critical otherwise we are going to end up with massively over flowing landfills.
The other big reason that we need to recycle computers is because a lot of the pieces in a computer are other non-renewable resources or they are harmful to the environment to produce, or both. Inside your computer there a small pieces of things like copper and silicon and many other materials. The amounts in each computer are quite small but when you factor in how many computers get thrown out each year it really ads up. Being able to reuse these materials saves precious resources and reduces the amount that has to be mined each year.
Almost all of us have sensitive private data on our computers that we wouldn't to fall into somebody else's hands. However, if your computer goes into a landfill that is exactly what could happen. Anybody could grab your computer out of the landfill and then have access to your information. No matter how well you think you have erased the information it is usually still possible to recover it. The only way to be sure the information doesn't end up some place that it isn't supposed to be is to completely dismantle your computer, like we do when we recycle it.
A lot of recyclers will simple take out the valuable metals and then throw the rest into the landfill. This is hardly doing anybody any good since the metals inside represent only a very small part of the computer. A&J Electronic Recycling E-Waste recycles everything that can be recycled and then properly disposes of the rest.
